  • Steele already has 20 disposals for the Saints and we’re only halfway through the second quarter.

St Kilda have reasserted themselves on this contest with back-to-back goals from Jack Higgins and Membrey putting them back up by 20 points, 7.2.44 to 4.0.24.

Membrey joins King as the Saints’ second multiple goalkicker.

What is going on over in Adelaide?

Back-to-back goals from Casboult and Honey put the Blues up by 15 points early in the second term, 4.6.30 to 2.3.15.

Port Adelaide had better wake up soon otherwise they will run the risk of blowing a chance to move to the top of the ladder tonight.

Meanwhile, the game is back on Geelong’s terms at Kardinia Park, with the last four goals going their way to see them claw their way back to within eight points, 4.0.24 to 5.2.32. Blicavs now has the job on King, Henry has been moved off the dangerous St Kilda key forward.

Good news for St Kilda with King back out on the ground after appearing to have his troublesome groin attended to for quite a long period of time.

And in his absence, the Cats have kicked the last three goals to trim the deficit to 14 points early in the second term, 3.0.18 to 5.2.32.

Who saw this coming? Without Cripps, McKay, Martin, Silvagni, Jones, Williams and Docherty, the Blues have come out and taken a four-point lead at quarter-time against the top-four Power on their home ground.

They seem to have lifted for Murphy’s 300th and final game.

Carlton are on top in disposals 111-99, clearances 12-8, tackles 19-15, marks 27-15, inside 50s 14-13 and scoring shots 8-4. It’s been a really commendable effort in the hot environment of a flag fancy’s backyard.

    Pt.Adel 2.2 (14)
    Carlton 2.6 (18)

    GOALS
    Pt.Adel: Marshall, Bergman
    Carlton: McGovern, Kennedy

    DISPOSALS

    Carlton: Walsh 13, Murphy 9, Kennedy 8, Newnes 8, O’Brien 7

    INTERCEPTS
    Pt.Adel: Aliir 4, Clurey 4, Houston 3
    Carlton: Weitering 4

The Cats were able to get the last two goals via Stanley and Cameron, but they’ve still got a lot of work to do after the King-inspired Saints piled on the opening five majors of the game with Steele also having a huge influence.

The Saints are leading the disposals 95-85, tackles 19-12, marks 27-16, inside 50s 11-10, scoring shots 6-2 and free kicks 7-4.

Geelong are looking incredibly vulnerable down back without Stewart, but the Saints are holding their breaths with King needing to go down to the rooms just before quarter-time.

    Geelong 2.0 (12)
    St Kilda 5.1 (31)

    GOALS
    Geelong: Stanley, Cameron
St Kilda: King 2, Sharman, Membrey, Jones

    DISPOSALS
    Geelong: Selwood 8, Henry 7, Dangerfield 6
    St Kilda: Steele 13, Dunstan 8, Crouch 7, Jones 6, Sinclair 6, Wilkie 6

    INTERCEPTS
    Geelong: Blicavs 3, Henry 2
St Kilda: Wilkie 4, Sinclair 3, Dunstan 2, Steele 2

    This is quite extraordinary.

The Saints have now kicked the first FIVE goals of the game to take a commanding 31-point lead with just 3:55 left in the first quarter.

    The Cats haven’t scored yet!

King is absolutely tearing Henry to shreds and already has two goals to his credit.

The massive upsets look like they could be set to continue unabated today.

Meanwhile, the injury-ravaged Blues have started in promising fashion at Adelaide Oval as well, leading the top-four Power by seven points with 9:30 left in the first quarter, 2.2.14 to 1.1.7.

McGovern and Kennedy are the goalkickers for Carlton while Marshall has sole major for the Power.

    Leading disposals: Kennedy 7, Walsh 7, Wines 6, Dow 5, Murphy 5, Newnes 5

The Cats look to be really struggling down back without Stewart, who unfortunately sounds like he is out for the rest of the year with a foot injury.

From just seven inside 50s, the Saints have kicked three goals, to lead by 19 points at the halfway mark of the first quarter, 3.1.19 to 0.0.0.

St Kilda couldn’t have asked for a better start to this contest at a ground they haven’t won at since 1999.

King is looking particularly menacing with four marks (two contested), four disposals and a goal already.

    Leading disposals: Steele 9, Holmes 5, Crouch 4, Dunstan 4, S.Higgins 4, Jones 4, King 4.

The Saints are off to a flyer with King and Sharman kicking the first two goals of the game from set shots on sharp angles to put them up by 12 points after nine minutes, 2.0.12 to 0.0.0.

Wilkie has the big job on Cameron in the former Giant’s return game from injury, while down the other end, Henry has lined up on King.
